Formulaic Sequences and Discourse Markers in Applied Linguistics Research Papers. A cross-linguistic corpus-based analysis of native and non-native authors published articles

Metadiscourse markers and their importance to academic writing are essential research subjects nowadays. The current corpus-based study aims at identifying interactional interactive metadiscourse in terms of frequency function the abstract section published articles applied linguistics developed by Algerian, Saudi, Native researchers. 20 for each group, with a total 60 have been randomly selected compiled as corpus this study, then analyzed qualitatively quantitatively using AntConc.3.2.4 relying on Hyland’s classification markers. As comparative considered abstracts written natives benchmark attempted find an answer main inquiry related use devices Algerian Saudi researchers comparison counterparts. results showed how close were native ones endophorics, frame markers, code glosses, hedges, attitude self-mentions.
